Q and A (Part 2) – Campfires, Quirks and Cowgirls!

Let’s dive right in, shall we? Welcome to part 2 of my Q and A!

Where is the most interesting place you’ve been to?

Ooh, I don’t know. Ah, I’ll tell you this story. The place I went was certainly ‘interesting’. Basically, I went to do a spoken word performance and workshop at a youth club in a city near me. It was horrible – full of kids  smoking, swearing, taking drugs, throwing bottles of wine around, being extremely rude to each other (and to me). It was so hot and it stank and I was there for ten hours. Yay.

What are some little things that make your day better?

I need this after that last question. Lol. Okay – Writing. Sunrises and sunsets. Music. Pinterest. Laughter. Friends. Learning new things. Campfires. Sunshine. Sweet comments. Poetry.

Is there a song you know that fits your personality?

I think I’m more of a mess of snatches of notes and lyrics than an actual song, but I think if I was a song I’d have the voice of Adele, the lyrics of High Dive Heart and the tune of some old rock or folk song. XD

What quirks do you have?

I’ve never thought about this before. Here goes – I use way too many words than necessary, I daydream a LOT, I forget my belongings all the time, I get stuck on things that happened ages ago and that everyone else has probably forgotten all about and yeah….I’m imperfectly perfect 🙂

What movie can you never get tired of watching?

Probably Calamity Jane. It’s an old musical that just makes me smile and laugh and want to be a cowgirl every time I see it.

What do you hope never changes in the world, and in you?

World: All the positivity and all the incredible people and all the natural beauty. Me: my personality. I am me and I’m determined to stay that way!

What’s the best book you’ve read lately?

The Secret Life Of Bees! It’s beautifully written with amazing characters and a brilliant plot. I highly recommend it!

Favourite movie?

If I did have to choose just one it’d probably be Les Miserables. It’s AMAZINGGGGG. Oh, wait, or Dead Poets Society? Or Captain Fantastic?

– Favourite TV show?

Believe it or not, I don’t have a TV. Cue all the gasps of horror. Nope, not TV in the whole house – let alone a bedroom to binge watch in. I do watch things in episodes online sometimes though and my favourite TV shows are Victoria, Anne With An E, Little House On The Prairie and All Creatures Great and Small. I just watched some of Lethal Weapon and that’s actually really good too.

Do you currently have a WIP, and if you do, can you share a snippet or two? 😁

Yepppp! Well, I’m writing poetry mostly at the moment so I’ll share snippets of that. It’s better performed, but there you go!

“You stand there,
Tears of suffering overflowing from your eyes.
Vessels that have seen so much.
Too much.
You stand there,
The scars on your body displayed so vulnerably open.
The blood still fresh and red like rebellion.
You stand with your stories wrapped around you.
A cloak weaved from threads of hurt, pride and yet I found you.

And I stand here, next to you, yet so far away in every respect except for the fact that I could reach out and touch you.”

“It’s one of those…rainy day days.
When the sky is heavy with buckets of neutral grey,
And the words inside me are screaming out for the page.
It’s one of those rainy day days.

It’s one of those… lost-in-the-blue days,
Where there’s a lot going on in my head,
But my fingers are stiff from turning the pages,
And the tombstone tells me that inspiration is dead.
It’s one of those lost-in-the-blue days.”

Cats or dogs? (Or both??)

Dogs all the way! Although, my friend’s cat just had kittens and they’re adorable. 😍😍😍 So both.

Favourite season and why.

Autumn (or fall for you lot from the US). I love the beauty, the colour, the weather, the warm days descending into cold ones, the abundance of wild food to forage, the time to curl up in front of a fire and read a good book (‘cept that almost never happens. Only in my dreams…)

If you could invite anyone dead or alive to a dinner party for 12 who would they be?

You know, I sat and thought about this and most of the people who popped into my head are fictional! That just shows how my brain works. So I snuck a couple of them in there. Hope that’s okay!

I’d definitely have another one with all my blogging friends and all the members of my family who died before I had a chance to get to know them properly (my Grandad, Grandma, Uncle, etc).

  1. Moon or stars?

Stars. There’s so many of them and they’re so sparkling and bright. They’re absolutely beautiful – the way they form ancient constellations and burn so bright and they’re always there though we can’t always see them.

  1. On a scale of 1-10, rate sneakers.

We call them trainers here! Hmm, 8. They’re practical and light, but often quite expensive, aren’t they?

  1. What is/are your ambition(s)?

To teach, to learn, to make a difference.

What motivates your faith in god?

As I’ve said before, though many people assume I’m Christian, I don’t actually belong to any set religion. However, I do believe in God. I’m still trying to figure out what faith means to me and to understand it in greater and more personal detail so…I’ll keep you posted!

  1. What are your hidden talents?

Well, people are always surprised at what comes out of my mouth. They don’t think this weedy fourteen year old is capable of such power so when I launch into one of my passionate, scathing, metaphorical poems and start running rings of words round them – they’re always shocked. It’s quite satisfying actually. XD

As for small, weird ones – I can cross my toes and I’m great at most tongue twisters. Ah, and you also wouldn’t think I was good at swimming either (I’m NOT sporty), but actually I’m a really strong swimmer and I love being in the water. Diving, lifesaving, I enjoy it all. 🙂

  1. What makes you unique from the others?

Everyone’s unique from others. We’re all just ourselves. I think the way my family lives and thinks makes me quite unique too. I’ve had a unique upbringing – traveling and living free range on a farm, being homeschooled and so on.

  1. What does your travel bucket list look like?

It could go on forever. There’s so much I want to see and feel and experience. However, it’s more about the people than the sights and places, I think.

Main Countries:

  • Italy. I love the culture and the emphasis they lay on family and food. Plus I’m learning the language. I also have always wanted to volunteer at this community which uses Italian values to help drug addicts. It has one of the highest success rates amongst rehab centres all over the world. It gives these people new purpose to life. Amazing!
  • America. I have so many friends to visit there! I just can’t not go.
  • Canada. My parents got married there and it looks beautiful. They also stayed with a community of Native Canadians too and it was a life-changing experience for them and something I have heard SO much about. It’s partly shaped the way they raise me. I’ve also just got to meet this amazing girl (Aqsa) too.

Individual places:

  • A community which hasn’t lost all of it’s values and its traditional way of life and would be willing to share them with me
  • A bustling market in Morocco. I think it would stress me out a lot, but I’d love to experience effects the colour and heat and flavours would have on my senses.
  • A cosy bookstore somewhere.
  • A French coffee shop that sells pastries and doesn’t mind if I sit there all day scribbling in a notebook.
  • Someone’s table. I’d love to share a meal with a family in a foreign country.
  • The wilds of Scotland.
  • The beauty of African landscapes and the kindness and hospitality of the people.

Nanny –

Name 6 of your happiest times.

Ah, this is such a difficult one! I’ll give it a shot though. When I think of happiness – these things come to mind:

  • Summertimes with my friends (you know who you are)- A massive mess of crazy sleepovers, dramatic arguments, falling out and making up, cooking pancakes, talking for hours and hours, singing together, laughing, running away on long walks and sharing stories and secrets whilst the sun flickers on our favourite spot by the river.  Hiding from the rain, late night games of dreaded ‘truth or dare’, your ukulele strumming under a starry sky. Our voices blending together.

Running through the woods in the dark, away from all the rest of our friends to write poetry under the trees, sitting on the stairs watching music videos and comparing artwork. Riding our bikes down the road, freaking people out. Dancing with our hands, doing each others hair. Perfect contentment.

  • My recent spoken word performance and  meeting Elm! Grinning like a maniac all day. 😁
  • Bri making me cry on my last birthday.
  • Singing in the car with my whole family.
  • Eating something you’ve just foraged fresh from the wild!
  • Having struggled so much with friendships and isolation and negativity and pushing through it and coming out the otherside as me!
  • All the adventures I’ve had with my family whilst we’ve been traveling. Rock-climbing, jumping of bridges into rivers, cooking on the campfires, pedaling and kayaking 100 miles on the canal, meeting people, walking and so on.

Talk about what inspires you most to do your poetry.

I’m inspired by everything I see in the world around me (both positive and negative), the mess of emotions, feelings, struggles and memories that make me me and from the stories I feel the need to tell. The truth I must speak.

What superpower would you want to have and what’s the reason for your choice?

This is a cliché question, but I love it! It opens up so many possibilities. I’d probably choose to be able to see into the future. It would just give me so much power to change things for the better if I knew what was going to happen. However, I actually might choose to be able to intervene in circumstances – like have the power to save someone’s life.

What’s a moral, belief or saying that you’ve lived by for a long time?

I try to help others when I can, to challenge the way our modern society works, to make a difference and make a change, to be myself and be honest.

Random thought – I am listening to Empty Chairs At Empty Tables from Les Mis and I’m literally crying. It’ll give you goosebumps.

Have you watched any of these TV shows or movies? Happiest times ever? Who would you invite to a dinner party for 12? Let me know!

  1. Hi Gracie! I’m Apoorva from Elle online! I loved your answers!!! I hope you do more such Q and A’s like this!! I really enjoy ‘em! I couldn’t ask you a question because I wasn’t blogging for some days! But I will surely ask you a question if you do more such posts like this ( you have to because I like them!).
If I were to invite 12 people for a dinner party, I would invite some of my favourite authors, influential people, my friends, and my favourite actors ( if I can include them after so many people!😂). Checkout my blog sometime!!❤️ xxx
